Realtors Care Blanket Drive 2008

The 14th annual REALTORS® Care Blanket Drive runs from November 24 to December 1, 2008.

Each year REALTORS® volunteer to help collect and deliver blankets and clothing to the disadvantaged in the Lower Mainland. Since its start in 1995, the REALTORS® Care Blanket Drive has donated more than 19,000 bags of blankets and clothes. In 2007, REALTORS® collected a record number of bags - 4,200 in total!

This year, we ask for your help to make this another warm holiday for individuals living in poverty. Please support the REALTORS® Care Blanket Drive by dropping off your donations at participating real estate offices, or give me a call and let me know that you would like to donate.  I will spend a day driving around to pick up your donations if you can't make it to a local participating real estate office.

The most needed items are:

New or gently used

• Blankets, sleeping bags

• Warm clothing, scarves, hats, gloves

New

• Socks

• Underwear (men and women)

History of the REALTORS® Care Blanket Drive

Vancouver East members began the week-long campaign after speaking with aid agencies in the downtown Eastside. A need for blankets was quickly identified, as one cold night could require as many as 3,000 to 4,000 blankets.  About 600 bags of blankets and clothing were collected in the first year.

The Blanket Drive was an instant success and today has grown to include not only the Real Estate Board of Greater Vancouver, but also the Fraser Valley and the Chilliwack and District Real Estate Boards.  Other provincial Boards have expressed interest in hosting their own Blanket Drives, which would help make this a truly provincial program.

All donations are kept in the communities in which they are collected.
